Classes

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.
— Henry David Thoreau

We offer a variety of courses focused on developing students’ ability to critically engage with significant topics and texts. Our courses offer students the opportunity to engage with the kinds of riveting material offered at universities at a young age within a group of similarly motivated and intellectually curious students.

Our courses are offered to students aged 12-18. Courses will meet for between 1-2 hours per week, as noted in the descriptions. All meetings will take place on Zoom.

Classes will meet at the listed days and times. Students will be expected to complete readings and/or writing before each meeting.

Walden Education offers unique classes that span a variety of fields and age levels. Grade levels are suggested, but students may choose to enroll in classes which suit their level and abilities. All classes are online, offering students an opportunity to engage with students across the country.

Students often discover their passion in college because college courses offer more varied and specific options for undergrads. At Walden, we hope to bring this diversity to students under the age of 18. The independence of choice and exposure to ideas shouldn’t be restricted to college students. By giving them this opportunity at a young age, they learn to have autonomy in their learning. Research shows that an increased control over classes and learning creates an increase in engagement, energy and happiness (Hait, Happiness Hypoth)

After enrolling in a class, parents and students are sent a syllabus which details class schedule and required books. View classes below to learn more about content and register.

Courses are designed to mimic college settings. Classes are seminar-style, students are expected to complete weekly readings and be prepared to discuss in class. There will be analysis both of primary source material and critical analysis.

Age level suggestions. We use age level rather than grade level in order to reflect the level of maturity of the material. However, these age levels are meant to be taken as suggestions, and we welcome students outside the age range suggested if the content is particularly appealing to them or parents believe the class to be suitable to their age.
